As the spectacular closing ceremony brings Rio 2016 to the end, I reflect on why the Olympic Games is so important to our world. I could write a book on it but this video below shows it the best. The pride of our nation, the unconditional support of our team and its uniform....without a care in the world of who wins! Take a look......
It is this next generation that our team is inspiring. To be better people and better leaders. This is GOLD!
Another illustration is this from a dear friend who sent me a message:
Emma (who is 16) comes to me about 10 days ago - 'so do you think I could be an Olympic Diver ?' Of course Em, why not?! 'Ok well, I need to lose weight and tone up first ' so, has been at the gym every day since. i love the way sport and particularly the olympics reaches ordinary people and inspires them to become a better version of themselves - gotta love her unwavering belief in herself and her amazing self esteem.
It has been an amazing two weeks of thrills and spills and testing of the human spirit. I know our athletes have inspired our next generation.
Through their efforts to triumph they have shown their strengths of character. It was an honour to be part of this awesome team!
I am sad it is over, yet we will need four years to recover and prepare for the next one.
Thank you all for your generosity and for your support, all the athletes and myself are incredibly grateful, we couldn't have made it without you.
Thank you also to Rio for its colour, playfulness and sports spectacular. Tokyo 2020 we are already excited!
